Former DISD District 1 Trustee Edwin Flores Files to Run for School Board
(Dallas, TX) - Former DISD District 1 Trustee Edwin Flores has filed to run for DISD Trustee in the seat he held from 2005-2012.
Community leader and businessman Ron Steinhart is his treasurer.“I believe it is critical to return strong leadership to the DISD Board of Trustees from District 1.” said Flores. Edwin Flores was District 1 DISD Trustee from 2005-2012 and ran on a platform of strong leadership, strict accountability and real progress in our schools. During his tenure, he was known as one of the reform leaders on the board.
State Representative Jason Villalba stated, “As we make major decisions concerning education in Austin, it's imperative that we have strong leadership on the DISD Board from District 1. Edwin Flores has a positive history of working with the community, the board and administration, and local and state officials. He’s the only candidate I trust to continue the reform efforts in our schools. I fully support Edwin Flores for District 1 DISD Trustee.”
Local education leader Louisa Meyer said, “Edwin understands the needs of our community and has always been accessible. We need a trustee who is connected to our community. Edwin is that leader.”
Edwin Flores was elected to the DISD Board of Trustees in 2005, and re-elected in 2006 and 2009. He holds a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, a Ph.D. in Molecular Immunology from Washington University, St. Louis, and a B.S. in Microbiology from UT Austin. Edwin is a self-employed Biotechnology Patent Attorney. He is a former Dallas County Assistant District attorney. Flores served on two National Boards of the National Institutes of Health: the National Advisory Council General Medical Sciences and the Council of Councils. He and his wife have two children that attend DISD schools.
